Gelitaspon has a beneficial haemostatic effect and can be used in most surgical procedures. Gelitaspon is particularly recommended where venous or diffuse bleeding occurs, which is difficult to control with traditional means.
Gelitaspon is extremely suitable for additional local bleeding. Gelitaspon is a gelatin sponge to which the platelets easily adhere and thus release thrombokinase. Platelets attach to the collagen and activate the clotting process.
The beneficial haemostatic effect is due to the uniform porosity of the sponge, which allows the platelets to adhere to the network and to be broken down. This releases thrombokinase.
